Mike,
If you are running fine, reasonable power, and not spewing
blue smoke out the tail pipe... Then a solid reading of
130 dry/140 wet seems reasonable.
I'd give it a full tune up, swap in the better carbs,
and ENJOY the summer. Come fall, then pop the head off
and do a "minor rebuild/inspection" Usually the main
bearings are good for 140,000 (??) with frequent oil changes.
You can drop the pan, pull the head, and replace the rod
bearings and rings with the engine in the car. Usually after
80,000 miles a "fresh up" of rod bearings, rings, minor
valve job, and timing chains will bring it up to par.
Admitted when I buy a roadster, and do not know it's history
I'll replace EVERYTHING for maximum reliability.
Despite our 95/95 days (95 degrees/95% HUMIDTY!) we had a
cool evening last week. Dropped to 75, felt fairly dry...
and I have the roadster apart. Darn! Perfect night for a
roadster run... so what until November to pull things
apart!
Oh, you can do a "minor rebuild" over a week. Tear down
the first weekend. Drop the head off Monday at aMachine
shop. Remeber to drop off the valve stem seals with the
cylinder head. Pick up everything Friday... put it back
together the next weekend. Unless you have that date,
and over due project to finish, after a game of checkers
with your son... never fails, around December you remember
you really should work on the car before spring...
Cheers,
