There are 2 ways to consider grounding the sensor.

Put a hose clamp around the sensor metal body and run a wire from there to
a grounding bolt somewhere on the engine.

Pull the 'stat cover and either get a new gasket with the metal staple in it
to ground the housing, or add a small piece of wire through one of the cover 
bolt holes to ground the cover.  It may also be possible to clean the places
on the 'stat housing where the mounting bolts/nuts make contact, and replace
the nuts/bolts with something that will not corrode or rust, like stainless.

Either way, make sure to clean the areas where the connections will be made
to cut down on intermittents.
