Well, I did something last night that I should have done a while ago.
I calculated my static compression. It turns out that after installing
the 8.8:1 flat pistons that were .030 over sized and shaving .020 off
the head, my compression ratio is about 9.5:1... ooops! So I think
that this could be the cause of the running hot, need for octane
boost, etc. Anyone know how to add about .020 back onto the head ie.
thick head gasket or shim. I calculated that the .030 oversized piston
increased compression .3 and the .020 off of the head accounted for
another .4. Thanks for all of the input. I take it I should have the
head machined smooth (a good machine shop is hard to find). Everyone
was very helpfull!
Thanks,
Chris
