Absoblankinglutely. This one's going in my quote file.
I took lots of pix of my Europa chassis after the gang lifted the body off
but before I started pulling parts off of it. Smartest idea ever. As the
thing was going back together, I was always looking through this pile of
pictures in the garage. Felt pretty smug about my foresight.
After I got the body lifted back on again, most things went OK. But there
were some things back in the engine compartment area that should have been
more thoroughly photographed. I didn't feel so smart all of a sudden.
So I had a good idea, but I fell down in the middle. I shot a lot of
general stuff when I first got the car. I shot a lot of stuff on the
body-less frame. I should have shot stuff whilst removing parts from the
engine/gearbox when the body was still on. An extra roll of film at
disassembly can be cheap insurance for later.
The baggy-with-note-stuck-in-margerine-tub theory saved me a lot. The
only thing I really lost was a part for the clutch cable. Careless.
Should have screwed it back to the cable after pulling the cable through
the body. Must have thought it would stick to the arm, but I can't
remember. Dumb. Moral: When you are tearing something apart for a long
time, assume you will forget details and that parts will drift away from
each other unless positively fastened to each other.
