NO, that is not true. The overdrive was optional throughout the entire
production run of the Austin-Healey. It was simply a very common option and
was included on about 90% of the cars that made it to the USA. The same is
true for wire wheels. Disc wheels were standard but only about 1 in 10 did not
have the optional wire wheels.
