have fun designing a course, but be prepared for an onslaught of complaints,
moaning and criticism.  so a thick skin is the first order of business.  i
remember at my first course a mod driver followed me around resetting the
cones after i had finished each section.  at another event i assigned one of
my co-chairs the sole task of keeping other people from changing the course.

since we have so many drivers per event, we have some special needs to
process so many people.  however, we dont want to get too stuck into just a
couple of styles and i am also against 'dumbing down' the courses too much.
the trick is that you can make the course have complications, but when
people blow that section they dont hit cones or go off course (it just costs
them time).  the boondoggle course was a good example on the very slow right
hand after the slalom... go in too fast and you just end up driving 1 extra
mile (well it seemed that long to me!  :) )

its actually pretty challenging to create a course thats interesting and
flows well.  one method i like is to combine normal looking elements in a
way that implies a slower line, but hidden in there is a smooth fast line
that requires a little thought to see.  have fun!
