I have no idea what POS mainframe I learned to feed punch cards to in
school, but spent way too much time tapping lines of FORTRAN into a DEC PDP
11/70 the mid-'80s.  We had dedicated VAXs for data acquistion in the wind
tunnels, too -- thought we were extremely high speed at the time.

And those damn machines were around *forever*!  I remember running across
Z-100s collecting dust as late as 1993, including extra external hard
drives.  I seem to remember a ruggedized machine of about the same vintage
as the Z-100 -- a big gray metal box with a tiny screen, sealed to keep dust
out (and heat in).
