The argument about "allowing one driver with an expensive car" is what got
the Viper booted from SS in 1995 after it won SS in 1994 with a driver who
"wasn't that good." Which was a BS argument by the Corvette horde whining
about getting beat by a Dodge. The "not that good" driver has only trophied
eight times in nine Nationals, and drove a Viper less because he wanted the
expensive Corvette-beater than because he was a Dodge nut. Another Viper
driver that same year who really *was* "not that good" finished 39th - but
the Chevy whiners never noticed him.

But then, not long after, Mazda built a Corvette-beater and they couldn't
kick it out of SS because half the people in the class bought one, including
previous Vette owners.

And then -- what goes around comes around -- Corvette built a
Mazda-beater/Viper-beater and everyone bought one of those. Viper is now
allowed back in SS but there is no land rush to buy one. And Mazda has all
but disappeared (one this year, finished 32nd).

Is a class that has only one competitive car model really a good thing?
