It doesn't sound very scientific but I myself was recently branded as a
witch for about the same thing when I suggested that hardly any road racers
quit racing and take up autocrossing based on my personal experiences.

As another piece to the puzzle I have done neither and I did not receive the
offer. OTOH it could be Dennis Grant... :)
