Okay,

Now that I've read Roger Johnson's private but very insulting email
about
this thread I understand why this email list is so controversial. Please let
me clarify my comments about the recent 'Dear SCCA Member' emails.

First, I neither know, nor care who runs, owns or opperates
SCCAforums.com.
Their use of the SCCA name does strike me as misleading, though they clearly
disclaim any affilition with the SCCA on their web site. SCCAforums.com
could be owned and run by a recent Champion, my local RE or Howard Dunkan
himself. I don't care. I was commenting on a business practice that is quite
commonly done by discussion web sites.

Second, the question I replied to was this:

<<They could have gotten a list of names from here by subscribing to the
list
and running a program to extract the e-mail addresses, they could have
gotten the list of name from sccaforums.com by running a programming and
searching that site for e-mails addresses.

It is not very difficult to create your own mailing list.

Mr. Joffe is very correct in implying that you can very easily lurk on
mailing lists, gather names and sell them. Or you can host a web site that
gathers names and sell them for even more money.

Third: I work in internet commerce for a living and know such businesses
exist, they are very lucrative. For those like Mr. Johnson who wish to
question my credibilty on this issue you're invited to contact your local
office of the Maxim Group who will lead you to a source to verify my
credentials. (you'll need to be in a Top Fifty market, otherwise
www.maximgroup.com.)

Fourth: I didn't get any 'dear SCCA member' email from carparts.com
until I
went to SCCAforums.com. Could that timing have been a coincidence? Sure
that's why I was GUESSING!

As a rule everybody I've met in SoloII is someone I'd invite to my home,
finally the exception that proves the rule has been found.

If the host of SCCAforums.com says they aren't selling a list that's
good
enough for me. And with their blessing I'll post it to the list with an
appology.
