This caught my attention. Since I'm fairly familiar with the spots that
Speedvision airs, I didn't remember seeing that (POS) in rotation recently.
So lemmy go dig up the logs and look at the spot (just to remind myself how
awful it was). I scroll through the east coast primetime and do not find
anything. I check the mirror (west coast airing) and do not find anything.
Three spots in the rally show are listed as "Pro Rally/Various". I check
them
and they are: Audi, Falken Tires, and Hyundia.
So where is this spot? Lemmy look at the show (it's still in the playback).
Segment #3, has a "promo" listed on the client runsheet. The plot thickens.
Spin to the end of segment #3, and there it is. Posted into the program, is
a
:15 version of the :30 that ran a few year's ago (for the TV tech heads, it
looked like it came off of a U-matic =8^O ).
What this means, is that the air time was not separately arranged. It was
edited/posted in, when the raw material was put together and the show was
completed. Taking this a little bit further (here's the speculation part),
no
one dumps a promo into a show out of the goodness in their hearts.
Maybe it was a "barter" deal. That is where for every sold product, the
producer/network/TV station receives a portion of the sale. Or maybe SCCA
paid X dollars to have the promo in there.
The Pro Rally is a showcase for various car companies such as Audi and
Hyundia, and I suspect that is where most of the show's funding comes from
them.
So the real question is: is any division of the club, funding television
productions?
Food for thought, reply to my home domain: mattm@optonline.net or the list.
