Can you guys clue me in to the attraction of stock classes.
=============================
Yes I can.
While your AM car may be faster on the autocross course, I can "race" my car
on Sundays and also have fun with it the other 6 days of the week. I can
participate in autocross events as well as drag racing, track days, road
rallys, cruise nights, drive-ins, get me to work, take a woman out with it,
buy groceries in it and still get 30+ mpg with the A/C and stereo on.
That's just one very good reason. That, and usually you don't have to work
on them as often as the high strung "fast" cars.
Besides it's much more of a challenge to make a slow turd Stock car go fast.
And in my opinion, more rewarding too.
Does that answer it for you?
Now having written that, I'm getting bored with Stock and want to tinker a
bit more so I'm moving to the STS class next year. Guess what, I'll still
be able to do all of the above events with the same car.
