The problem with BS is that (apparently) you need a new miata to win.
That's $20k. And its a miata, so the budget racer, who probably can't
afford to have multiple cars, probably won't be able to consider it even
if they can stretch their budget.
The neat thing about DS is that a neon makes a great & practical daily
driver, the car is cheap to buy new or used, and the car is competitive.
Of course, everyone except neon drivers seems to hate the idea of an
affordable spec class, so we're apparently changing it.
Whatever.
I submit that serious racers on a budget want a class where the costs of
entry aren't exhorbitant and where the rules are relatively unchanging.
See "definition of spec class". DS filled that role for a while, but the
new class proposal wrecks that. Perhaps a "spec early miata" class would
fill the role now.
My suggestion would be to leave DS the hell alone and let it continue to
fill that role, but I also understand the "sports car" side of the club.
At least 1st gen miatas are under $10k down to say $3k, which at least
makes it realistic for a racer with a budget to buy one (along with a
"real car" for daily driver duty).
