Bill,

Have you checked the brake shoes and cylinders for leakage, and the condition 
of the shoes? It's unusual for the handbrake cable on the SV to stretch 
beyond it's adjustment, as it's relatively short, going to one side only, as it 
does. Also check there is no problem or excess wear on the cross over rod 
between 
drums. This can give some extra adjustment, by shortening it's length, but 
make sure you don't weaken the rod.

Also, your drum adjustment should be automatic, if the SV is standard, unless 
you've reverted to the previous manual adjustment type. I've found the manual 
type to be preferable, as the self-adjusters are quite flaky, and often 
over-adjust, causing the brakes to bind, and overheat.
