James---What Doug wrote could certainly be the cause as to what has
happened. It could depend on how long of a drive you took to lose more
than two quarts of oil from a leaking valve cover gasket, or whatever.
I would also check to see that the PCV valve is free to vent the
crankcase, as internal pressure will find a way out, taking oil with it.

motor. Also check the oil pressure gauge line, a small crack or pin hole
might spray oil towards the transmission. It would be unusual for a rear
