Hey - you're a masochist.

Ah - these bearings are a PITA. If you have access to a puller with long
hooks, you can get this apart. However, most times we don't have that sort
of tool handy.

Seeing that you are replacing the bearings, you need to perform a
sacrificial ritual - and the sacrifice will be the old bearing itself.

Get a fairly hefty screwdriver and pry on the outer bearing cage. Distort
it enough to get the rollers to fall out. Eventually, the cage will come
loose.

Once the cage is gone, get your puller hooked on to the inner bearing race
and pull away. It should come right off, it's a tight-ish interference
fit.

Assembly will go smoother if you heat the new bearing to about 200 F for
10 min. You still have to "whack it" to get the bearing fully seated, but
it's much easier to do this with a hot bearing than it the bearing is room
temperature.

Hint # 2 - the outer axle stubs are a major bitch to get apart. We used a
30 ton press on the last set and they wouldn't come apart. Next time we
try the 50 tonne (or larger) for the job.

rml
