I installed Hella H4 lamps in my TR6, along with fused hi/lo relays. They are
65w/55w which would stetch the electrics to the limit (remember that there are
NO fuses!
Hella also makes a lamp they call "Vision" with nomencloature HB2. The lamp
is virtually identical to the H4 lamp, but is US 50-state street legal. The
bulb is identical to the H4. I put these in my TR8, which must still go
through state safety inspection. Check out

Both lamps are replaceable bulb, direct bolt-in using the stock connector. I
purchased all of these mailorder, $35 per lamp plus shipping, from Automotive
Performance Systems in CA, but I don't know if they still exist. JCW has them
for $39.95 per lamp, as well.
I'd go with the HB2s. I actually like the slightly soft edge beam pattern
better than the sharp H4s.

Some of the aftermaket conversions to HID set ups are often illlegal for
on-road use. Check your local laws. In Colorado it is illegal to go to these
systems unless it was a factory option. How well the law is enforced could
also be a factor. Also, some of those kits give you an HID look while actually
reducing the amount of light coming from your front end. By using dichroic
filtration the light looks white but the power is reduced almost in half.
I have Cibie H4's in my TR6 and they are great! They are bright and have
great beam direction. A bit spendy at $60 per unit and then another $8 per
bulb. But they plug right in and with the 60 watt high beam you don't need
another relay. Although you can get a 100 watt high beam (if you add another
relay) if you really need to scorch someones retinas.
