If you can get an engine, any running engine.
Maybe from a car that somebody is parting out.
It would be a good weekend project for you and
some friends to swap that "new" engine into your
car.  This will get you the summer and fall driving
season.  You can take long drives and meditate 
on what you plan to do with the broken one.
