One more data point on front wheel bearings...
If the bearings are adjusted too tight, they will run fairly hot. In the
worst case, the grease will fail (as outlined by Dick Taylor) first you
get the fluid coming out of the grease cap, then the grease teuns to a
nasty paste. Then the bearing fails.
I urge you to read the manual on the proper method of setting the
bearings. Tighten it up, then back off "two flats".
Done properly and with proper grease application, the bearings should run
a good long time. Done incorrectly, and the bearings don't last too long
at all. Don't ask me hom I know that.
While you're under there checking things, make sure that you have even
wear on your brake pads. Uneven wear could indicate a stuck caliper
piston.
