In 2009, I was somewhere in Iowa. Large town, might have been Des Moines but my TomTom gps thing lost all satellite signals - probably because of very high buildings in the immediate vicinity?
Anyway, when the signal returned, I was given the instruction to take the very next right turn, which I did. The turn itself was through a gap in a wall and then on to a very neat and narrow blacktopped road, surrounded by immaculate lawns and two cars in front of me who were both halted. The cars then went elsewhere, one by one, and the blue Stag and I were brought to a halt by a sign saying STOP HERE alongside a box on post.
Then the box spoke to me.
I couldn?t understand what the woman on the other end was saying, and she couldn?t understand me, so everything started off swimmingly. The voice in the box insisted on knowing who I had come to see and simply couldn?t get her head round the fact I knew no one at this location and I was only there because of a GPS malfunction. The whole process was like pulling teeth and the woman continually asking who I had come to see. Perhaps both tempers were getting frayed until I asked her why she kept asking who it was I had come to see?
Long silence.
?As you?re here sir, you must know what happens here??
?I don?t. Enlighten me?.
Another long silence.
When she replied, she seemed utterly amazed I had never heard of the Seven Steps to Heaven drive thru funeral home (or whatever it called itself) ?now who do you want to see??
It seemed the only way out required me to pass someone, so I paused very briefly alongside a Mrs Jones - but I?m sure that the concept of drive thru funeral homes were later copied by others such as McDonalds and Starbucks and that?s why I refuse to patronise either, unless I walk into them - providing I?ve found a parking place.

I have a friend interested in purchasing a Stag that is located in Canoga Park, CA.
We could use somebody generally local and familiar with Stags to do a PPI on the car and report back.
Reasonable fee is offered for the service.
If able and interested, please contact me at

I contacted 3 of their board members via email.
Presumably they will notify their membership?
That?s how we handle those sorts of inquiries in the BACLV.

With all this talk of selling cars and divesting spares it is good to see someone still growing their fleet! Good luck with the acquisition Jonas.

As a rule of thumb, I try to use the better brand gaskets when they are available. I cannot speak to TR3 gaskets, but I find that the cheaper gaskets sometimes need "fettling" to fit properly. I see this all the time with the manifold gaskets for TR6 and there have been times when there was no choice available - just available. I chose "available" so I could drive the car. The cheaper gasket ate 2 hours of my labor to fit. The stud holes were off by 1 / 8 inch, plus or minus. Ans one or two holes were not the correct diameter.
That said, if you're like me, you buy the cheap one AND the expensive one and one winds up either as a spare or in the bin...
Good luck!

Greetings everyone ~
Opinion time:
Subject: Oil pan gaskets.
Without disparaging Moss, I note their 692-000 Payen gasket is $26.99
while their stock gasket (695-000) is just $4.99. Is the Payen gasket TR3
that much better?? Worth the $$ difference?

I buy the cheaper gaskets and use Ultra Black RTV. They do NOT leak that way and the thick gasket allows for relatively easy removal (race EMG in a come apart a lot).

The go-fast Triumph fraternity lost an important member last Sunday, JK
Jackson had died.
I was lucky enough to meet JK very early in my racing exploits, and he
took pity on my attempts to field a TR4 that was in a pitiful state. His
guidance some twenty years ago was key to my climbing the curve from
neophyte to racer. He was always willing to offer advice, and if you
followed his advice to the letter the outcome was usually positive. If
it didn't turn out as expected, I know I screwed something up! It was JK
who explained to me how to build a big chassis Triumph gearbox that goes
the distance, his techniques worked back then and I still use his
formula on every gearbox I build.
As I stand in front of my parts washer working the dirty parts, I still
think is this clean, or is it JK clean...
RIP, my friend.
