Agreed, but would add using a spray bottle with 2 – 5 drops of dishwash soap added to the water in the bottle. Moisten the surface before application so the decal can be positioned correctly before squeegeeing out any air bubbles. Soak the decal in this same solution to slide the decal off the backing.

I remember that in my youth I built several plastic models that included decals that were water-activated. I know I have applied these decals to my TR6 escutcheons but I forget exactly what I did but it is likely that I used the same technique. Dip it in water and apply to the surface and let it dry.
