I would reinstall the fan hub extension and loosely install the dog bolt.  The use a hub puller against the bolt and the hub extension to pull.  This avoids pulling on the pulley which is how pulleys get bent.  Once it t pulls partway off you can take out the bolt and use a metal rod or something in place of the bolt to finish the pull.

But if you do bend the pulley, I have about a half dozen spares!
