I have a friend who is the original owner of a 74, and another friend who inherited a TR6 from her uncle, who bought it new. Both have cardboard. And I had a TR4 where the original owner, or maybe the second owner (I was the 3rd) who fiberglassed the original cardboard.

Am I the only one who has an original fibreboard tunnel which is perfectly serviceable? (In fact, I have two - 75 TR6 and 76
Spitfire.)
Several years ago, I bought a plastic tunnel for a Big Name company.
Had a friend over to help me put the transmission back in. He sat there for 45 minutes, drinking my beer and watching me try to fit that plastic b*st*rd in, before pointing out that he's never seen a cardboard cover in better shape, and why didnt' I just use that? Which was a perfectly reasonable question, for which I had no reasonable answer.
I have since formed some reinforcing strips out of stainless steel for the corners and softer spots. Still works fine after 47 years.
Anyone want a plastic TR6 tunnel cover? It could be had cheaply...

Thirty seconds later a sort of tunnel or panel was pulled off the inner former and placed in a pile alongside to cool. What stands out most in my memory was the stink of raw fish as fish glue formed a large part of the ‘goop’ mixture. Unfortunately the fish odour lingered around each assembly for many months and made the cars in which they were later fitted to stink of fish as well!

I guess that’s why y’all are considering alternatives?
