 I had the same issue with a replacement I installed in the TR3.  I wound up soldering it closed.  It has become a plug that looks like a drain valve.
I think (Haven't tried it yet) that if you take some valve lapping compound you can grind them into a tight fit.  Something the Pacific Rim Manufacturer didn't do.  (They were low bid, after all)
