I have a new steering rack (original is judged not rebuildable due to wear on the rack gear teeth). On the passenger side, on top of the tube, there is the hole shown in the attached photo.

Should there should be a plug of some sort? In the original that hole is filled by a rubber button from the inside, perhaps as part of a bushing of some sort. The hole will be under the mount, I intend to use a solid rack mount so I can?t rely on the mount bushing to seal against water.

I will call the vendor tomorrow, I thought I?d ask this group also. I?d install it today if I had confidence that all is as it should be.

Thanks

Cliff

I THINK that's a locating lug that should have a corresponding peg on
the aluminum mount between the rack and the bracket on the frame.? If
so, the mount should pretty much seal up the hole. However I'm not 100%
sure about that.

Wanted to validate my understanding of the low oil pressure sending switch on a 1976 TR6.? I noted that a wire was not hooked up and when I hooked it up, the oil pressure warning light came on and stayed on when the car was cranked.? In the 25 years I have owned this vehicle, I have never seen the low oil pressure light on so didn't realize that there was a problem. I put a meter from the switch to the positive battery terminal.? When I crank the car, there is 13.7 volts, regardless of the oil pressure.? My sense is that the switch should only ground under very low oil pressure, and that when suitable pressure is achieved, the ground is disconnected.? My assumption is that there is an internal short in the switch which is keeping the ground connected regardless of oil pressure.? Would this be a correct assumption, or is there another issue???David Gill1976 TR6

This article looks like bullshit to me and has a clear political agenda. The Triumph list has successfully steered clear of political discussions and, to my mind, should continue to do so. This content  is best left to other more appropriate forums.

I see a lot of really belligerent rhetoric, but no facts or sources.  I
think this guy is just trying to get people riled up.

I agree, utter B.S. paranoia.  We heard similar conspiracy theories 21

Okay, I'll accept that the post was not meant to be political, but the
linked article certainly was.

I think you got played by a (not too clever) fear monger.

That was a loopy, alarmist article, and definitely political in its
original intent.

I recall my automotives professor, Doc Schraeder, telling the university
class more than forty years ago, "I've washed my hands in more gasoline
than your grandkids will ever see."

He might have been off a generation, but not by much.  We'll have ICE
engines for at least another century, but they'll become curious old
conveyances.  ...Well, some of ours already are, I guess!

There are organizations such as SEMA and individuals such as Jay Leno who lobby on behalf of our hobby.

They are very, very important.  There are many, many people who believe that old cars should be scrapped.

I don?t think I?m the only one who has been told:  Why do you have another car?  You can only drive one car at a time.

Although this article may be a little on the extreme side, it has many valid points.  Remember the seat belt lock in 1974?

We need to be aware of those who seek to destroy us (or at least our hobby).  They are out there.  In government.  Now.
