[TR] locking brake TR3

 thanks Gregyes, i did re-adjust the brakes.2 weekends ago i pulled the drum off to check and see if anything was astray.no wet spotsshoe was held intact with the little clipy things.put the drum back on and adjust.
so if the hose has become a one way valve, why would it only lock up rear left, and even on just moderate braking.weakest link in the chain?
im at the point where im going to replace master cylinder, hose and slave cylinder.just be done with it

I had a similar head scratcher issue on my old Austin Healey and strangely enough it went away when I did a thorough check and adjustment of the parking brake, I know it is the brake adjuster that should determine the position of the shoes when the parking brake is at rest, but nevertheless that is when my problem went away.

Alternatively, your M. Cylinder may have failed and may not be allowing the return of fluid on release,  I had this happen on a TR6 with one of those recalled TRW master cylinders about 10 years ago.

On cars with an adjustable length master cylinder rod, the rod can be too long, preventing the return of fluid – had this happen on Jag XK’s.  Getting the rod adjusted perfectly was a PITA.

i try not to use the brakes, but occasionally some bone head gets in the way

everything looked ok. springs in place, little taby things that hold the shoes in place still there.

re-set the adjustment when i put things back.

This happened to me once.  It turned out that I had a leaking brake cylinder and the friction material on the shoes had become saturated with brake fluid.  I was surprised to learn that this will cause the shoes to lock onto the drum.  Check your master cylinder reservoir to see if you are losing fluid, then check the brake cylinder on the side that’s locking, for signs of leakage.

my rear left brake keeps locking up on me.

took the drum off last weekend and all looked good.

just took it for a run and ,,,,,,ugh. still locks up

any thoughts on where to look next?
