Bud – 

    The rear deck panel was the first area I had to have touched up after I bought the car back in 1989.  My top actually seemed to seal pretty well especially around the windows.  It definitely stiffened the car up – less scuttle shake, less twisting over bumps.  But it’s a convertible… that’s why the hardtop hasn’t been on the car in over 31 years.

One of the ways your TR6 will be transformed is the potential for scratches on the rear deck panel from the hard top riding on that rear panel. I quickly got rid of my hardtop because of that problem. You can try to protect the paint will a barrier of sorts but then the hardtop won't seal properly. The hardtop does make the TR6 look like a cool GT car but it is a semi permanent with pluses and minuses and the rear deck may suffer.

I’ve not seen any for sale recently except for those crappy fiberglass ones (Parrish? $450  - $700) but 

he’s not interested in one of those. I understand that condition of the top will dictate the price but
