I spoke to Randall in regards to Ken Gillender who was a Brit Triumph rebuilder who sold performance partsin regards to a camshaft. He had a real love for the cars and was a joy to speak to. We corresponded numerous times after and he always had the best idea. He was the guy to go to when you couldn't get a good answer. I was very lucky to have known him. I just got a call from Randall's wife, Mei.  Randall died 2 days ago.  He
was only 64.  Very sad indeed.

Mei asked me to let his Triumph friends know, so I have posted a note on TRE
as well as this email.  Anyone who knew Randall should feel free to post to
other sites where he was active.

Mei told me they are planning a funeral in the Midwest (Missouri, I believe,
but she was very emotional and hard to follow).  She said any friends who
want to know more should call her on her cell phone:  (562) 303 8007.  Her
address is 5754 Coke Avenue, Lakewood, CA  90712-1605.

Rest in peace, Randall - we will miss you.

This is sad news indeed. I never met Randall as we live many thousands of miles apart but over the years he greatly impressed me with his knowledge and his technical fixes. This list has lost a colossal information resource, friend, and general Mr Fixitall. I?m sure our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family at this very sad time.

Terrible news indeed.  Randall was one of the first list members I met in
person - 18 years ago as I recall.  He will be sorely missed.

Like myself, Randall was from Indiana though perhaps there was a Missouri
connection too.

He was a very generous individual: creative, knowledgeable and direct.

I don?t know how many posts he made here, but since September 2012, Randall posted 8,744 times to TRE. That?s an average of over three each day. 

How many of those were clear, concise and spot on like his posts here? Thousands? How many had the perfect picture attached?

His knowledge and generosity in sharing it seemed boundless.

 im stunnedRandall was the best.im proud to say i knew him and he was friend.we were both members of the 3 los angeles triumph clubs.i have the left front fender from his wrecked TR3 on my car.
a fond memory might be worth telling, to hold back my tears.the first los angeles triumph club i attended was a dismal night.it was raining like a new york rain.in the parking lot was a green TR3 with a rag top. it was a rag. no back windows.when i asked whos it was i was pointed to Randall.he had that wry smile as i questioned him on being out on a night like this so unprepared with his top.a guy who i never saw drive anything but a triumph

I have been bailed out so many times over the past 20 years with direct contact with Randall. Even when overseas with my cars and in need of a quick ?go to? knowing I would get a sound, complete and thorough response he was there. Expected nothing and totally giving. to me for my Stag and anything to do with Triumphs. I got to meet him and
his family about 5 or so years  back in Santa Cruz, CA.  He came up this
way to buy a tire alignment thing from some guy who was a Fiat dealer at
some point.

What terrible news! He and I exchanged a number of e-mails and pictures,
always about farm tractors and related equipment. I can't think of how many
questions he answered over the years with concise information and excellent
pictures. It will be hard to imagine that we will not see his posts down the

Think we met Randall at VTR and maybe TRF.one year.
Several of us locals went to his fathers home I think in Frankfort, IN years ago. They had
Triumphs, etc. sitting about. I saw his dad at our annual Indy Brit car show occasionally. 
Pretty quiet person I thought.

The passing of Randall Young is a real shock and a very sad, very tragic, loss of a truly good man who gave so much of his knowledge so freely to so many. A true one-of-a-kind that cannot be replaced. I will miss his knowledge and insight on all things Triumph all the rest of my days.

Someone on the list posted a photo a few months ago when we all first 
heard about Randall's hospitalization. I don't think the other fellow 
was Fred. Maybe if you get photos of both you can use a photo editor 
application to merge the two.

Just back from a hour and a half Stag ride in memory of Randall. Fred Thomas also introduces him to me at a VTR years ago. Wonderful memories of great guys.

I was a fly on the wall with this group, but, over and over Randall?s wise
council      Made Me think that one day I might restore MY TR3.  Now I

I have been reading with sadness all the testimonies regarding our friend Randall, wondering whatever is it I could say that the eloquence of others has not already touched.  I have nothing.

But I am struck by this thought.  We are all of us given one life, with no second chances to get it right.  If we were the last man alive, our responsibility might be simply self-indulgent anarchy. But most of us choose to be a member of a community, and that comes with it an ominous, at times terrifying, responsibility.  Randall chose to accept that responsibility, steadfastly committed as a loyal friend, a loyal husband, a loyal member to his family, a loyal American, and, as I recall, one concerned about the broader issues of the world we live in.  I don't think I exaggerate when I deem that he was the enshrinement of what it meant to be the leader and spokesman for his community.  When he spoke, people listened, and were better for it.  You knew he cared, not just about the technical problem in front of him, but about you, the person presenting that problem.  If it's possible to leave life without regret, I only hope I can be half so successful as I gauge him to be.

We have seen an outpouring of grief and loss by his friends here.  I am certain we are but a small part of the loss those closer to him feel. I join you all in wishing his family well.
