 True but mounting the slave on the top side of the transmission (a la Spitfire) would do the same thing.
The internal slave is an annular cylinder that surrounds the transmission input shaft and directly operates the throw-out bearing.  This eliminates the linkage, crank-arm and fork found on the TR's and fewer parts = more reliability.  Or so goes the formula.
Oh, yeah, no taper pin the break.

All the Ford's I've owned with manual transmissions have cable-operated clutches.  Hmm.
