Dave’s comments also reminds me that a loose Water Pump pulley can make the noise you’re hearing.

I'm with the others.  Check out the easy stuff first.  A friend of mine convinced himself he had a rod knock and only after dropping the pan and checking things out did he figure out it was an exhaust leak.


Take the fan belt off and run the engine (briefly) and see if that changes anything.  If it does that is probably where the problem is.  It could be the water pump or a failing belt or the generator.


Use a stethoscope and probe around.  Use a length of hose and probe around.

I ran the ‘3 for about 60miles today.  On returning home and running at idle I noticed a knock.  I hear in the video here
