Phil Allen, who was the Team Triumph head mechanic back in the 60s when Craig Hill raced a TR4A for the Canadian Team has suggested that with one plug removed, the manifold vacuum would suck cylinder air back into the manifold and weaken the mixture as stuck pistons would have given a rich mixture.
