… and it does seem to be moving smoothly. Regardless, now that I know what caused the problem, it is easy enough to address if it hangs up again.

Easy enough to check.  Just remove the chamber and piston assembly and move them upon and down listening and feeling for any "catch" points.  If  you feel minor grinding, the assembly is not moving smoothly enough.
