For what it is worth, our '71 Peugeot 505 was set up as shown below -
directionals on the right side of a LHD vehicle.

For those of you who asked whether the diagram I was referring to was a RHD
car, or that I had spent too much time inhaling fumes in my garage, here is
the diagram I was referring to:  OD on left, turn signals on the right.
