[TR] TR4 question

The first thing to check is the tightness of the rack mounting. Open the hood and turn the wheel back and forth and watch to see if the rack itself moves back and forth. If so that is your problem. Usually is.

If this is the problem you can tighten up the clamps. There is a clamp plate under each clamp that has diagonal slots. If you assemble the clamp loose enough that you can drift that plate for and aft you can tap that plate to push the clamp tight against the flange on the rack and remove all play. Then tighten the nuts securely.

One work about the flat washers used in this application. If these are typical hardware store, grade 2 washers they will likely deform and the clamps will again become loose and will drift and the play will return. Be sure to use good, SAE grade 5 or better flat washers for long term satisfaction.

There are polyurethane bushes available for this to provide even tighter rack attachment. Some use aluminum blocks here as well which I think are overkill for a street car.

Subject: [TR] TR4 question

TR4 owners: is there any adjustment on the R&P steering on a TR4? I have been driving the newly-restored car and I think there is a little too much slop in the steering.

Any help would be great- thank you !

Andrew
