[TR] Tires

The manager of my local Goodyear Tire shop, who I also play racquetball with so this isn't a sales pitch, said that tires age out at 5 years.  I'm sure we've all run tires past 5 years, but that's their story and they're sticking to it.

I bought a Michelin tire to use as a spare so it will fit in my TR3, that is "new". It still has the sticker on the tread, and it's at least 10 years old.  Tire seems in very good shape so I'm gonna take that risk if/when I need to use a spare tire.

Is there a point at which “new” tires should not be used?  I have a set of unused 165 x 15 tires marked 2409, indicating they were manufactured in June 2009.  Any issues putting them on a car?
