That's what I did on my car.  Took the splined axles apart and checked
for wear...everything looked good so I greased them well with
synthetic lubricant and reassembled them.  I no longer get the "hop"
under hard acceleration in a curve, where the splines have grabbed and
release when I change gears.  I kind of miss that quirk, but then I'm
not racing...

I also used the kit from Patton Machine to redrill the stud holes in
the trailing arm for inserts.  http://www.pattonmachine.com/TAK.htm
I'm not sure if it was necessary, but I won't have to do anything in
the future.
