Nope -- go for it, just make sure that all of the old glycol-based fluid is gone. Also, even with silicone fluid, 45 years is too long between flushes / refills.

Twist them together like the wire that keeps potato bags closed. The loops are to slide a screw driver through to get a nice tight twist. Then fold the "pig tail" over to get it out of the way.
