Most of the world was already metric, Britain was one of the last holdouts
(much as the USA still is today). Since of course Triumphs were sold
world-wide, it made sense to give dimensions in both systems. Even my TR3
owner's manual gives most in metric as well as English. (And in some cases
American as well, where those are different. For example, crankcase
capacity is specified in liters, Imperial pints and American pints.)

FWIW, there is more to bullet terminals than just the outside diameter.
They come in both crimp and solder styles, and different internal diameters
to suit different sizes of wire. Roadster Factory stocks 5 or 6 different
ones. Price per unit is probably quite a bit higher than fleabay, but by
the time you buy a big bag of the wrong ones, buying just what you need
might seem more attractive.

My personal preference is to buy the crimp type connector that is a snug fit
to the wire at hand, then solder it on (as I don't own the proper crimping
tool).
