Sounds like you have undone all there is to undo.
Smacking the bottom of the shafts (as suggested) may help, of course you
will thread a nut on there to protect the end of the stud.
I have heard that the problem may be that the parts were painted and
assembled before the paint had completely dried/cured and the result was
lot of adhesion inside there.
