My first "real" computer was a Toshiba (I think) laptop, equipped with two 3.5" floppy drives. Software resided on disks inserted in the A drive and data was written to the B drive. I bought it through a PC purchase program at work. It was very expensive but my company offered a zero percent long term loan, which made it affordable. It game with a software suite called Smart, a competitor to Lotus Notes. To change from the word processor to the spreadsheet, there was a "suspend" routine that enabled you to remove the WP floppy and replace it with the spreadsheet floppy before resuming your work. Very cumbersome! There were also floppies for a database program some other components. Needless to say, Smart did not last too long.

There is nothing more discouraging than typing in code for several hours just to see it all disappear after one very short power glitch.  My next computer was a PC XT with real floppy disc drives that actually worked.

I don't remember what happened to mine. I know I had the cables that allowed me to store programs on a regular cassette player. I wrote some very rudimentary course plotting programs in basic, that included the ability to add waypoints.
