[TR] Leaking Stromberg

Hi, Bill

Trouble with the English spoken around the world is we sometimes have different terminologies for the same word! 😊

>From your description of the problem, I’d guess you have an issue common to both SU’s and Strommies and that’s a stuck float needle. Usually, it’s a build-up of varnishes from differing types of fuel used over the years and the cure is easy. Remove the float needle from its housing and with a piece of fine grit sandpaper or coarse paper used in preparing the surfaces for paint, wipe each ‘fin’ on the float needle up and down the paper. Then do the same thing to the top of the needle. Finally, wrap another piece of the same paper around a cotton bud so it’s a snug fit and move it up and down the float needle housing while twisting it at the same time. These two actions should remove any glues/varnishes from the needle and its housing so that stiction no longer occurs. In the past I’ve done the same thing when fitting new float needles because even new needles can have microscopic burrs on the fins that will also cause sticking if inserted into an uncleaned housing. While you’re about it, you might as well do the same to the float needle on the front carb as well. Good luck!

Subject: [TR] Leaking Stromberg

For some reason the rear stromberg on our 1970 TR6, CC59179L, leaks fuel from float drain plug, I thought it was simple fix, first replace O-ring … nope, OK order new drain plugs from Moss … Nope … still leaks.

Any and all help greatly appreciated.
