[TR] TR4A Aluminium Head

You've already gotten lots of good advice; so I'll just say that my first
step would be to have the radiator tested for combustion gases, to see if
you really do have a leak from combustion chamber into cooling jacket. If
so, you have to fix that first. The tool is called a "block tester" (for
some odd reason), and you can probably find one (with chemical) for around
$30 on flea-bay. Or, any radiator shop should be able to do the test for
you for roughly half that.

Assuming you have a combustion leak, I would go for a composite gasket
rather than the solid copper. Aluminum heads are harder to keep sealed, and
the solid copper gaskets are fairly famous for the same problem, so why
double your headaches? As Tony mentioned, you may need a bigger gasket to
clear the combustion chamber in the head, if it has no shroud over the
intake valves. Check the liners too, as folks sometimes open them up under
the intake.

Check liner protrusion on both sides, and preferably get it near the top of
the range in the book. I would be tempted to try my "fire ring" trick as
well. Strictly mickey-mouse, but it's worked well for me on two motors now
that I couldn't keep sealed otherwise (low liner protrusion on one side).
