This is what I used. I took my windshield off of course. You could make the vertical part longer to clear the windshield on a TR6.  Second picture was where the balance point is with overdrive. Without OD it would balance more forward. Very easy to micro adjust up or down to line up for installing.

     Years ago I read about a guy in Australia that made a lift to get a TR3 gearbox out with the engine still in the car. Maybe Randall has a link to it.
