[TR] hydraulic jack recommendadtions

I have a similar “hybrid” aluminum/steel jack from costco. I think it was about $100 for a 3 ton. So far so good.

I do have a question, the loop handles on the side, are they just for ease of movement, or structural? I ask because I removed mine to allow me to get jack stands closer to the jack. With the handles there I often couldn’t get the stands positioned where they should go as there are limited places support areas on many cars.

thanks,
Jeremiah

Harbor Freight has aluminum racing jack with low floor clearance.
I have the two-ton version and it works well.

One-and-a-half to 3-ton aluminum versions are available:

I'm sure you can spend more (or less) elsewhere but this item seems
pretty well made and a good value, to me.

YMMV,

Dave

After 16 years of good use my Sears 3 Ton jack is given me problems.

The handle which is used to raise and lower the car also, if rotated ,is used to open and close a valve. through a gear mechanism Unfortunately, the gear mechanism has locked up.

If I remove one of the gears, can can manually close and open the valve by hand, This works OK, but if I have the jack under the car, this involves me going under the car too. Something I don't want to do.

So I'm on the hunt for a new jack. I'd like something light, but I need about 2 tons. I have Stag.

  Any recommendations?

  Sujit
