"Makes one wonder if the car has worked fine for 35 years with a vacuum unit which never working.
It’ll be interesting to see if you notice a difference with a functional unit. I’d certainly be interested in hearing."
I had the vacuum advance go out on my TR4a many years ago, I could tell something was wrong, and I eventually figured out it was the vacuum advance, the car idled and ran fan, but made less power, and I think it was running hotter too, you could probably adjust the static advance to offset this somewhat, but there was a noticeable difference (if there wasn't I am sure I never would have figured out that it wasn't working, or at least it would have taken a long time to figure it out by a chance test of the vacuum advance unit. At the time I didn't have a timing light to check how it advanced through the rev range and throttle settings.
