[TR] TR6 ammeter

I think those "some people" are correct. Since the ammeter is designed to
show net charge, there really should be no difference if accessories are
turned on or not (except for the blip) as long as the total load of the
accessories is not greater than the capacity of the alternator. Also,
remember that the capacity of the alternator is higher at speed than at
idle. The initial surge in net charging current reflects both the drain on
the battery during starting as well as any drain during the time the engine
was last running. If your ammeter shows additional charge when accessories
are turned on with the engine running, then I would say those accessories
are drawing current from the battery side of the ammeter - that way the
ammeter shows additional alternator load, but it is being used to satisfy
the load of the accessories, not the requirement of the battery to be
brought up to full charge. Here's a test - turn accessories on with the
engine off. If there is no deflection of the ammeter, then you are drawing
current from the battery side of the ammeter. I don't know if there are any
weird bypass or auxiliary circuits on a TR6.

We are having a discussion on how a TR6 ammeter should read.
Mine has always shown a charge when running, although less once it has run a
bit, and as I turn on more equipment it shows a greater charge.
Some say that is wrong. It should show less of charge as you turn on
equipment and almost no charge once it running along and the battery is
charged. They say as you turn on more equipment it may blip to charge for a
bit but should settle back to indicating a minimum charge.
How do yours work? What is correct?
Peter
