[TR] TR4 Speedo

Thanks. I did verify that the rear axle is a 3.7. I found out that the
axles had either a 37 tooth or 41 tooth crown gear with the same 10 tooth
pinion gear. Have no clue if the axle or speedo is original or not. Thanks
for the tips on cleaning and lubricating.

That 1312 sounds like the calibration number. If so, that would be for a
car with a 4.1 axle. Most TR4s (even with OD) had a 3.7 axle, and a
calibration number around 1120.

They've changed the formula for Endust, the new stuff doesn't work as well,
IMO.

Even a soft cloth was enough to take off the lettering on my TR3 speedo. I
used a camel's hair artists brush instead, and only worked up to the edge of
the lettering.

I would also want to disassemble the mechanism enough to clean and regrease
the gears that drive the odometer and trip meter. The original grease will
be more like gravel by now.

Everything takes longer and costs more.
