[TR] Triumph Spit/GT6 Rear Axle Inner (Needle) Bearings Help

I'm reassembling a rear axle hub for my 73 GT6, and I'm a little miffed 
about what exactly (if anything) is supposed to hold in place the inner 
needle bearings (?)  I thought the housing was tapered to prevent them from 
sliding farther into the hub, but they will, if I push them even lightly. 
What keeps them in place against the inner oil seal and prevents it from 
sliding around inside?  Thanks ..
