There are high torque starters available for the early bellhousing/flywheel
configuration. But this configuration existed well into the TR3A production,
don't know the exact cutover, but my TR3A, serial number 57201L had the
early bullet nose starter.

I realize the TR3A starter will not work with a small-mouth gearbox (unless
you make a hole in the casing), but is there any reason to believe one
cannot use a modern, hi-torq starter with the early gearbox?
