That's odd.  "No DOT 5" warnings are common; but DOT 5 is not the same as "synthetic".  

In fact, all DOT brake fluid is "synthetic" (not refined directly from petroleum) and it is quite common to see the "synthetic" name applied to DOT 3 & 4 brake fluid.  For example:
